True-crime series often struggle to convincingly show the audience how the original crimes happened. Actual footage of a crime scene is hard to come by and is usually limited to long shots of a home surrounded by ambulances and police tape.
Prairie Crimes cuts through this limitation by using animation to show the actual events in a true crime event or series of crimes. Otherwise the structure of the program is the same as other true-crime shows: a series of events described by detectives, psychologists and forensic experts.
Here is an animated/live-action trailer for the proposed TV series about Canadian true crime stories.
